A. The contracting companies undertake to receive all

I.P.O. (C.P.0.) mails that may at any time be put on board their

steamers, to store them safely and carefully in a locked room, and

to deliver them upon arrival to the persons duly authorised to

take delivery.

B. They undertake to refuse to carry any mail matter,

Foreign or Chinese, other than what has been placed on board by the I.P.O. (C.P.0.) or the ship's own national (Consular) post office, excepting letters exempted by I.P.0. (C.P.0.) rules,

letters from the ship's agents, letters referring to the ship, her

cargo,etc..

C. They undertake to instruct the masters, officers, creva or other employes of their steamers to co-operate and support

I.P.0. (C.P.0.) officials in the performance of their duties

and to prevent or punish any action detrimental to I.P.0. (C.P.0.)

revenue.

D. They undertake to make good to the I.P.0. (CF.0.) any indemnities it might be liable to pay to the public for losses

or damage occurring while the mails are in their custody.

E. In return the contracting companies are to receive, at

the end of each quarter, a sum equal to half the fees paid by their steamers for Special Permite whether Night, Sunday, or Passenger Permits to any Custom House in China from the date

and until notification of rescission..
